The RAA has released the results of their second Risky Rides survey, revealing the roads which riders believe are the most dangerous.
Topping the list was Greenhill Rd, with Main North, Payneham, South, Fullarton, North East, Portrush and Port Rds all featuring alongside Sir Donald Bradman Dr and Frome St.
This continues to highlight the real need for safe, separated cycling corridors along our major arterial roads and/or nearby safe, traffic-calmed routes running in our quieter parallel streets.
Importantly, the data showed that “cyclists were responsible for only 17 per cent of crashes between cyclists and motor vehicles on the top ten nominated roads”, which is helping dispel the common myth that riders are the cause of most incidents between cyclists and motor vehicles.
The insights come just days before SA Police reported the end of Operation Safe Cycling, which ran from the 9th until the 22nd of January. The operation resulted in 167 cyclist fines but only four fines for motorists. 270 cyclists were also cautioned compared to only 17 motorists.
