Bike SA, alongside national, state, and territory bicycle organisations, have submitted a joint submission to the National Electric Vehicle Strategy calling for the inclusion of e-Bikes, e-Cargo bikes and other forms of electric micro-mobility.
The national strategy is being developed by the federal government and comes off the back of the Electric Car Discount Bill which passed the lower house and is set to go before the Senate.
The joint submission, spearheaded by national cycling body We Ride Australia, asks for the inclusion of e-bikes and other forms of electric mico-mobility on the basis that they are becoming increasingly popular as a means of replacing short car trips and provide accessible and affordable mobility options for Australians.
While transitioning away from internal combustion engines and towards electric engines is an admirable goal, and can lead to lower emissions and costs for Australians, the inclusion of e-bikes in the strategy can more rapidly move Australia towards an even cleaner transportation future.
The organisations co-signing the submission represent 10.19 million Australians who choose to ride a bike in a given year.
The submission can be read in full here.
