Bicycle South Australia (BikeSA) has entered a new era of growth and modernisation following a decisive vote by its membership to adopt a new Constitution at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting held on 27 November 2025.

The result, an overwhelming majority in favour, marks the first major governance reform undertaken by BikeSA in more than 20 years. The new Constitution establishes a contemporary governance framework that aligns with state and national standards, strengthens accountability, and enhances BikeSA’s ability to advocate for cyclists across the state.

“This is a transformative moment for BikeSA,” said CEO Sue Bowman. “Our members have shown strong support for a future-focused organisation that is better equipped to secure funding, influence decision-makers, support clubs and riding groups, and deliver high-quality programs and events.”

The vote follows over twelve months of community consultation, governance benchmarking, and legal review, with feedback from riders, volunteers, and community groups shaping the final document.

In addition to adopting the new Constitution, Members elected three new Board Directors – Tony Cole, Eleanor Freeman, and George Hill – bringing fresh leadership and expertise to guide the organisation’s strategic direction.

Tony offers extensive executive experience across property development, finance and major community projects; Eleanor adds significant professional depth in urban planning, government, and active transport advocacy, complemented by her current role as a Councillor for the City of Adelaide; and George contributes strong civil engineering and sustainability insight shaped by both professional practice and a lifelong connection to cycling. 

“These new Board appointments reflect the depth of talent and commitment within our cycling community,” said Bowman. “Their vision and experience will be instrumental as BikeSA enters this next chapter.”

BikeSA now moves forward with strengthened capacity, modern governance, and a renewed mandate from its members to champion cycling across South Australia.
