Two South Australian ministers competed in a smoothie bike challenge as BikeSA officially opened its new home at 270 Angas Street on Wednesday, marking its return to Adelaide’s CBD.
Minister for Recreation, Sport and Racing Rhiannon Pearce MP and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Joe Szakacs MP joined mayors and councillors from councils across South Australia, alongside BikeSA volunteers, partners, Board members and staff, to celebrate the opening.
The friendly contest brought some BikeSA flavour to an occasion that marked a fresh direction for the organisation, with a focus on connecting with communities and helping more South Australians enjoy riding

BikeSA Chief Executive Officer Sue Bowman said the new office would support an organisation built around people and their experiences on a bike.
“People come to riding for all sorts of reasons. It might be a family outing, a way to get to work, a chance to meet people or an adventure they’ve wanted to take for years,” Ms Bowman said.
“Our job is to help them get started and keep going. That means listening to what people need, helping them build confidence and creating opportunities they feel comfortable joining.
“We want our new home to be a welcoming place for that conversation, whether you’re a long-time rider, a volunteer or someone who hasn’t been on a bike in years.”
The opening brought together representatives from state and local government with the volunteers and staff who deliver BikeSA’s riding programs, events and tours.
Their attendance reflected the shared interest in creating more opportunities to ride, from local trails and everyday journeys to cycling experiences that bring visitors into regional South Australia.
BikeSA President Nathan Petrus said working closely with councils, government and community partners would be central to the organisation’s next chapter.
“There is a lot of goodwill towards cycling in South Australia. The opportunity now is to turn that into practical outcomes for people who ride, and for those who would like to,” Mr Petrus said.
“Having ministers and mayors from various councils here alongside our volunteers and staff was a chance to talk about what we can achieve together. Councils understand their communities, our volunteers bring first-hand experience, and those conversations help us see where we can make a difference.
“Our volunteers have helped generations of South Australians enjoy riding. As we look ahead, that community spirit remains at the heart of BikeSA.”

Ms Bowman thanked the people and organisations who had supported the move and joined the celebration.
“It was lovely to see so many people who care about BikeSA in the same room. We’re proud of our new home and looking forward to putting it to good use.”
