The Cycle Salisbury Social Rides program recently celebrated its 12th birthday in true community style — with 37 riders taking part in a variety of social rides, followed by 20 participants gathering for a well-earned lunch and laughter at the Old Spot Hotel. It was a fitting tribute to a program that has become a cornerstone of active living and social connection in the City of Salisbury.
Backed by the City of Salisbury and Bike SA, Cycle Salisbury has grown into a thriving network of riders, supported by a team of passionate and dedicated volunteer ride leaders. Their efforts have helped foster not just a love of cycling, but a genuine sense of belonging and friendship among participants.

Despite a season (September–August) marked by record-breaking weather disruptions — with 16 rides cancelled due to inclement conditions — the program still came within 61 individual rides of last year’s record, finishing with an impressive 1,247 individual ride participations. Even more remarkably, three months of the season set new participation records, proving the resilience and enthusiasm of the community.
But it’s not just about the numbers.
The true magic of Cycle Salisbury lies in the camaraderie and the spin-off riding groups that have emerged — both formal and informal. Groups like the Uncoolies, Wednesday Wenches, and E-Bike Boys are just a few examples of how the program has inspired people to ride more often, connect more deeply, and enjoy the outdoors together.

None of this would be possible without the incredible team of volunteer ride leaders:
Elaine D, Bryce, Brian, Cam, Elaine B, Graham, Ash, Nigel, Samantha, and Jim — your commitment and energy are the heartbeat of this program. Thank you for continuing to do an awesome job!
A huge thank you also goes to the City of Salisbury and Bike SA for their ongoing support and encouragement. This brilliant collaboration continues to empower people to stay active, connected, and engaged — one ride at a time.
Here’s to the next 12 years of Cycle Salisbury Social Rides — and many more kilometres of friendship, fun, and fresh air.
