Learner riders in the program
At the start of Term 3, many young participants in our Bike Skills program at the Lefevre Community Stadium were just beginning their cycling journey. Kids like Tom, Charlie, Lara, Mia, and Nicholas arrived eager to learn but nervous, wobbling on their bikes as they found their balance. By Week 4, however, a beautiful transformation had taken place. All the regulars were confidently riding their bikes independently.
For Nicholas, the sense of accomplishment was even greater, as he had been learning alongside his twin brother, who was already a confident rider. The joy and pride on his face after mastering his bike were unforgettable. Stories like his capture exactly what this program is about — helping kids build both skills and confidence, while having fun in a supportive environment.

A special highlight of this term was watching the unwavering persistence of Tom, Charlie, and Nicholas. Week after week, they returned, determined to improve. Tom, in particular, embraced the program wholeheartedly — he even went out and bought a new bike, proudly bringing it to each session with a big smile on his face. Both he and Charlie would eagerly tell us how much they looked forward to every session, a testament to how engaged they were.
To ensure each child progressed at their own pace, we provided personalised support. One of our instructors focused on helping beginner riders like Tom and Nicholas maintain their balance, while the other worked with more confident riders on skill development. By keeping the program varied with changing obstacles and challenges, we were able to keep even the most seasoned riders excited and motivated.

One of the keys to this term’s success was the consistency and structure of the program. Every week, we offered a drop-in, casual format that allowed kids and parents to arrive at any point between 4 and 5 PM. This flexibility created a relaxed atmosphere, fostering a sense of community among parents, many of whom began chatting with one another and even pitching in to help with the course obstacles.
The feedback from parents has been overwhelmingly positive. One parent shared, “This is a fantastic program,” and remarked on how well their son, Xavier, responded to the sessions. He was so excited to hear that Bike SA would be returning for Term 4! Moments like these remind us how impactful our work can be — not just for the kids but for their families, too.

By the final weeks of the term, all of our regular participants were not only riding their bikes independently but also seeking new challenges. To meet this demand, we introduced a bike ramp for those ready to push their limits. It was an instant hit and gave participants that extra motivation to return, eager to conquer new skills each week.
In our final session, we were thrilled to collaborate with Daniel from the Le Fevre Cycle Speedway, where the kids had the opportunity to try out the sport in a relaxed, fun environment. It was a perfect way to cap off a rewarding term, and the enthusiasm from the kids was contagious.

As Term 3 wraps up, we reflect on the wonderful progress these young riders have made. From their first wobbly attempts to confidently zipping around the course, it’s been an incredible journey to witness. We extend a heartfelt thank you to the Port Adelaide Enfield Council for their support in making this program possible.
With the strong foundation we’ve built and the excitement generated from this term, we’re eagerly looking forward to continuing the program in Term 4. It’s clear that the love of cycling is only growing, and we can’t wait to see what our riders accomplish next!
