The Zen Energy Grand Slam Challenge Series has inspired countless South Australian cyclists to push their limits, foster community spirit, and celebrate the sport of cycling. This year, riders tackled a series of progressively challenging events, each one a test of endurance and determination. Today, we recognise the achievements of those who made it through all five stages, and we honour two exceptional individuals who took out the top awards.
Completing all five events in the Grand Slam Series is a remarkable feat, requiring riders to conquer distances from 80 km to an incredible 200 km— a total of 650 km in a single season. This year, the Bicycle SA Perpetual Trophy for Grand Slam Personal Achievement goes to Barry Whittington. Barry’s persistence and unwavering spirit set him apart, and his journey serves as an inspiration to all riders in the community.
Additional congratulations are due to the Grand Slam finishers who completed this formidable challenge. These dedicated cyclists also braved each distance with grit and commitment:
These riders exemplify what it means to commit to a challenge and push through every kilometre, rain or shine.

The Mini Slam series provides an accessible yet challenging pathway for riders aiming to build their endurance across shorter distances. This year, the Bicycle SA Perpetual Trophy for Mini Slam Personal Achievement goes to Katarina Amerl for her outstanding commitment and achievement in the Mini Slam. Katarina’s journey underscores the joy and fulfilment that comes with taking on new distances and meeting personal goals head-on.
In addition, we recognise the other Mini Slam riders who completed all five events, covering a total of 325 km:
Each of these riders deserves applause for their perseverance and love of the sport, proving that every distance is an opportunity to challenge oneself and grow.

Finally, we honour the “Club 500” riders, who completed at least 500 km across a combination of Grand and Mini Slam events. Their dedication and versatility across varied distances and terrain highlight the beauty of setting cumulative distance goals. Congratulations to the following cyclists:

The Zen Energy Grand Slam Challenge Series is more than just a cycling event — it’s a celebration of individual grit and collective passion for the sport. Whether you completed one event or conquered the entire series, every pedal stroke has contributed to this year’s success.
Congratulations to Barry Whittington and Katarina Amerl on their well-deserved trophies, and to every rider who participated, bringing determination and community spirit to the road. We can’t wait to see what achievements the next year brings!
