In a piece of positive news, walkers and cyclists will soon have an alternate way to cross busy Port Wakefield Rd when heading from Mawson Lakes to Globe Derby.
Currently, the Dry Creek Trail takes riders under Pt Wakefield Rd through an underpass which can be affected by tides and flows from Dry Creek. Even when the underpass isn’t flooded, it can often be full of mud and debris left from a flooding event.
While some are able to dodge the water by walking along a thin piece of higher ground adjacent to the path, many riders have been forced to U-turn or take their chances darting across the highway.
Now, a safer alternative is being installed a short ride north of the trail. A signalised intersection with a push-button crossing will allow walkers and riders to cross the busy highway without getting their feet – or their wheels – wet.
