The 2023 WeRide Australian Cycling and eScooter Economy Report has confirmed cycling’s enormous contribution to Australians’ standard of living.
The report by EY confirmed that 6.5 million of us cycled in 2022 – one in four of the Australian population.

The report, partly funded by Bike SA, follows on from the analysis of cycling’s national impact in 2020 and identifies significant growth in the sector in the past two years.
Bike SA CEO Brett Gillett said the report was a testament to cycling’s tremendous contribution to Australia and showed the enormous potential it has to positively impact our health, wealth and environment for years to come.
“The figures don’t lie. The benefits across the board – even to people who don’t cycle – are undeniable,” Mr Gillett said.
“Bike SA calls upon all levels of government to improve cycling infrastructure and support and encourage more people to ride bikes.”
