We are delighted to announce that Georgy Ewing is stepping into the role of Volunteer Coordinator at BikeSA.
Georgy will become the main day-to-day contact for our volunteers, working closely with them across BikeSA’s rides, tours and events. She will support Amy Giannakis, who will continue to oversee the volunteer program and help guide its ongoing development.
Many members of the BikeSA community will already know Georgy. She first volunteered with BikeSA around 10 years ago, after putting her hand up to help with morning tea on an Outback Odyssey. She enjoyed being part of the trip so much that she never stopped volunteering.
Since then, Georgy estimates that she has volunteered on five Odysseys, six Annual Tours, around 40 Grand Slams, three Flinders Escapes and a range of other BikeSA events.
“That’s an awful lot of biscuits and fruit cake!” Georgy says. “I’ve been rained and hailed on, experienced thunderstorms, towed a trailer full of wine partway around Kangaroo Island and had my swag fall down in the middle of the night. And it’s been fun.”
Originally from New Zealand, cycling was a regular part of Georgy’s childhood. She would ride five miles to school each day, or one mile to the school bus when she felt like taking the easier option. These days, she enjoys gentler rides to the shops and spending time riding with her grandchildren.
For Georgy, volunteering with BikeSA has been an opportunity to explore different parts of South Australia, support people in their cycling and become part of a close community.
“It’s a fantastic group of people, both volunteers and riders, and I’ve made many friends,” she says. “I’m looking forward to this next chapter and continuing to support BikeSA.”
Georgy brings extensive firsthand knowledge of volunteering at BikeSA, along with a genuine appreciation for the people who make our events and programs possible. Her appointment will provide volunteers with an experienced and familiar day-to-day contact, while Amy’s ongoing oversight will ensure continuity and continued improvement across the volunteer program.
Please join us in welcoming Georgy to the role. We look forward to this next chapter for BikeSA’s wonderful volunteer community.
